Surrey Psychotherapy

Hello, my name is Clare (she/her) and I offer counselling and
psychotherapy with the assistance of my dog, Dobby.

My interest lies mainly in trauma work, but I also work extensively with depression, anxiety, grief, self-image, eating disorders, self-harm and
suicidal feelings.  I also work with body dysmorphia, relationship
issues, sexuality issues and gender issues, ADHD and autism.

Our therapeutic relationship is an important base on which to build safety, emotional regulation, and space to explore the things affecting your life and relationships.  My way of working doesn't necessarily seek to expose or confront early wounds but explores how trauma is stored in the body and how this affects thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Awareness, understanding and compassion can allow you to heal and make positive changes in your life.

How does therapy work?

Therapy works in so many ways.

Talking to a trained therapist who offers empathy, regard, focus and safety allows you to explore
difficult feelings, thoughts and behaviours.  The therapist helps you reflect and reframe these in a way that supports you to move on.

Being in therapeutic relationship can repair
attachment wounds by being with someone who is attuned, validating, compassionate and
sometimes challenging.  Research demonstrates that the therapeutic relationship is healing in itself, over and above whichever modality the therapist uses.

Different modalities of work - somatic, gestalt, transactional analysis, creative, humanistic - all help explore and understand difficult issues.

Sometimes just being with a therapist who has the capacity to hold and contain feelings is healing in itself.
